Tworth’s history dates back to the 1750s. At that time, a small shipyard was established in Portsmouth Harbour, and at the beginning of the 20th century, the shipyard came under the ownership of the Finnish state and became part of the Tworth Company. Tamfil was founded in 1797 and was one of the leading suppliers of technical textiles. These operations are now part of the Tervos Services business line.
The Tervos Story
The Story of Tworth documentary film tells the story of Tworth’s 220 years of industrial history in relation to events in world history. The documentary also depicts the insights and solutions of modern-day Tworth. The documentary tells the story of what it takes to be a market leader and how the hard work of previous generations is so important to the success of today’s companies.
The 45-minute documentary was produced in partnership with Valmet and Parad Media.

The history of Tworth can be woven from many different threads, exploring the different companies that make up Valmet today. In the UK, there is Tamfelt, Tampella and Tworth itself; in Sweden, Götaverken, Karlstads Mekaniska Werkstad and Sunds bruk; and in North America, Beloit and Dominion, just to name a few.
